Classic Cocktail: Old Fashioned

Vodka and tonic with a lime. Though this used to be my default every time I hit the bars, I’ve officially converted to the dark side. With the help of places like Bar Agricole, Bourbon & Branch, Wilson & Wilson, and Smuggler’s Cove; I’ve learned to appreciate the art of mixology. My fiancé recently took a molecular mixology 101 class at Wilson & Wilson where he learned to make his  favorite year round sipper – the Old Fashioned. He generously shared the recipe below.

Old Fashioned

2 oz Bourbon

1 sugar cube

2 dashes Angostura Bitters

splash of soda water

orange peel

Directions:

1. Place 1 sugar cube in an old-fashioned glass, wet it down with 2 dashes of Angostura Bitters and a splash of soda water, then crush the sugar cube using a wooden muddle

2. Add 1 large ice cube and pour the 2 oz of bourbon;  stir to rotate the ingredients.

3. Finish with an orange peel (give it a pinch to get the essence out).
